Book Design & Layout Services
Have you written a book that you would like to self-publish? After your manuscript has been professionally edited, I create a design for your approval.
Here’s the interior page design I created for Paul Gerald, author of Breakfast in Bridgetown: The definitive guide to Portland’s favorite meal.
Here’s the interior page design I created for Michael Hagedorn, author of Post-Dated: The Schooling of an Irreverent Bonsai Monk. This book won first place in the Publishers Association of the West Book Design Awards.
After you have approved the design, I lay out and format your manuscript for printing. I speak the technical language of book printers and regularly create files for Lightning Source and CreateSpace as well as offset printers. View my helpful guide for authors that includes pricing and call me at 503-690-2438 to discuss your project. I look forward to making your book a reality!
Do you own a photo or illustration you’d like to use on the book cover? I will take what you provide or find one to purchase and create the full cover (front, back, and spine). Or the front cover only if it’s for an e-book. If you’re already working with an artist who has created the front cover, I’ll take that image and create the print-ready file including the back and spine. Questions? Please contact me because there are many options here.
My workflow is to take your word processing file and design it in Adobe InDesign for print and then export it to an ePub file and clean up the code to make a great-looking reflowable e-book. From the ePub file, I create the proprietary file for Amazon’s Kindle line. I thoroughly test my creations on an iPad, an iPhone, a Kindle Fire, a Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Previewer.
